A Message From Our Chairman

Dear Rotarians,

I am pleased to launch our first ever e-newsletter, Touching Lives, by the Rotary Family Service Centre (RFSC).

Touching Lives will be an ideal platform to update and share with everyone what the RFSC is doing and where we are going, plus many other useful facts and stories.

In 1997, when RFSC was started, we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to do for the less privileged and needy within the community. Since then, we have expanded our team and established ourselves as a fundamental service provider working closely with many grassroots organisations.

Going forward, I look forward to your continuous support as we embark on this new journey and encourage you to forward the e-newsletter to all Rotarians to be informed and be connected with RFSC to provide support for our projects and programmes.

PDG Kenneth Chew

Spreading Goodwill and Joy this Hari Raya Puasa

42 Muslim families were given an early Hari Raya surprise when Rotary Family Service Centre (FSC) staff members came knocking on their doors.

Armed with hampers full of festive goodies, each family received a basket full of decorative lights, firecrackers and green packets, as well as food items like glutinuous rice, cookies and snacks.

“I never expected to receive such a big gift and it is a wonderful surprise from the Rotary FSC,” said Mdm Umiyati.

Packed by staff and volunteers of Rotary FSC, each hamper is worth about $67.

Celebrating National Day

It was a time for fun, music and laughter when Rotary FSC held its first National Day Celebration with 120 beneficiaries, volunteers and students from Ayer Rajah Students Care Centre (RARSCC).

Kicking off the festivities was a short walk-about around the Clementi estate, followed by a string of fun-filled activities for both the young and old. Participants tried their hand at singing, dancing and also participated in various games organised by staff.

“I enjoyed the programmes and the walk, and I am happy that I got involved in playing games and singing songs,” said Ngatinah bte Kail. “The food was good and I will definitely join in again next year,” added the cheerful 56 year old.

The party was also a hit with younger participants, who loved all the fun and activity. “It was exciting and thrilling because we had the chance to run around shopping for one of the games,” exclaimed Lee Wen Wei. “I enjoyed myself a lot and had the opportunity to know more friends as well,” said the vivacious 12 year old.

Thank You, Volunteers!

Our volunteers personify our motto of ‘Service above Self’ and in appreciation of their compassion and contribution, the Rotary FSC organised an Appreciation Tea Ceremony for this special group of people.

Held at the Clementi Community Club, the Appreciation Tea Ceremony included games and sharing sessions, as well as a special performance by the students from the RARSCC.

Certificates of appreciation and awards were also presented to individuals as well as organisations that have volunteered their time and effort to help the Rotary FSC.

Among those who appreciated the thought behind the event was student Joycelin Wong. “The volunteers appreciation tea allowed us to feel that all our efforts with the children are worthwhile and we are definitely motivated to contribute more often to RFSC in the future, ” said the River Valley High student.

On the whole, the event drew praise from most of the 87 participants and was a resounding success.

Organised by Rotary FSC and Clementi RC Zone 2, the Mid Autumn festival block party saw Rotary FSC ’s beneficiaries and residents of a nearby HDB rental block coming together for a night of fun and entertainment.

Party guests were treated to dinner, games and a karaoke session and even received little goody bags with mooncakes, lanterns and candles. Supported by the Rotary Club of Suntec City, the event was a hit among the guests, who enjoyed the festivities and delicious mooncakes and pomeloes that night.
